Sleepless at night?

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep again. Usually a lot of things then go through my mind, and that keep me awake.

Somehow I have to trick myself into sleep again. I have tried various ways through the years; sometimes this works and then that, and sometimes nothing at all.

When I was a student I grabbed a pen and start making notes of all the things that bothered me until I could relax and fell asleep again.

Later I tried not to think of anything - about nothing - but that is almost impossible. So I moved my thoughts to a nearby tree. I climbed the tree, walked around it, rest in the shadow until I was so bored that I fell asleep again. Everytime my thoughts wandered away from the tree, I turned around and thought only about the tree.

Nowadays, if none of these work, I simply open my eyes and stare. Because this is how I fell asleep in front of the TV!
